Born in Oregon and raised in Berlin during a particularly exciting time, John witnessed a city growing together again in the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 2003 he traded his beloved hometown for the slightly wetter climes of Scotland to study theatre production and later Sound Design at Edinburgh University.
Led by a lifelong passion for sound, which started with his parents’ record collection and all manner of 80s children’s TV soundtracks, John developed his craft through various band projects and solitary experimentation with instruments, cassette multitracks and eventually more modern technology. He started writing music for documentaries while completing his Sound Design MSc at Edinburgh, then moving on to television and film and has somehow managed to avoid getting a real job ever since.
While for the past fifteen years scoring countless documentary series, drama productions, libraries, animations and commercials for some of the UK’s biggest production companies and networks, John has also carved out a space for more collaborative & performative projects and his own instrumental solo work since 2013, with which he occasionally tours as well.
Working in London, Berlin and Scotland, he is currently based in sunny Glasgow.
